Need for medical care and social services

Lars Olov Bygren

Department of Social Medicine, UmeÅ University, UmeÅ, Sweden

Predicting the need for care in the coming decades requires direct measurement of need in birth cohorts, allowing for differentiation with respect to age, generation effects, and the effect of period of time. The method of choice is a simulation of regular contacts with the services, implicit criteria of need for service, and a panel approach with measurement at three points in time.

Key Words: health services needs and demand.
